History of Wellness in the Adirondacks

The Point is proud to carry on the traditions of the Great Camp era, first established in the latter half of the 19th century when urban dwellers sought refined recreational refuge from the congestion of industrialized cities. In fact, our guests value this continuation of intimate splendor in a remote wilderness; a natural setting where health and wellness are restored.

The Adirondacks have long been a place of healing. Dr. Livingston Trudeau, born in 1848 in New York City, was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 1873. The conventional wisdom of the time was to have patients experience a change in climate from congested cities to tempered wilderness with ample fresh air.  The work of Dr. Livingston Trudeau, a pioneer in the theory of the ‘fresh air’ healing of tuberculosis had its genesis in the Saranac Lake region. This put Saranac Lake on the map as a healing destination.

Health Precautions

We are excited that with appropriate precautions, our longstanding traditions can be enjoyed in a safe setting.

To ensure the safety of everyone on the property, we have implemented a COVID-19 vaccine requirement for all staff and guests.  We require all staff and guests to present proof of a completed COVID-19 Vaccine (one dose of any single-series vaccine and two doses of any two-series vaccines). Upon arriving at the property, guests also complete a basic COVID-19 screening.  Our staff are required to complete a daily, self-monitoring questionnaire prior to any interactions with guests. If you have any questions regarding our COVID-19 protocols, please do not hesitate to reach out to our reservations department.

In an effort to further reduce the spread and risk of infection of COVID-19, the following measures remain in place:

  • Touchless check-in process with specialized baggage assistance and brief overview of the steps we are taking to ensure your health and comfort
  • Touchless sanitizer locations in all public areas and travel-size sanitizer bottles in guest rooms for traveling around the estate
  • Personal Protective Equipment available to all guests
